Women’s Premier League Clubs Receive GH¢2 Million GFA Boost Ahead of 2026/27 Season

All 20 clubs competing in the 2026/27 Gold Fields Women’s Premier League have received a combined GH¢2 million injection from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to stabilize team operations and elevate the standard of the domestic women's game.

Transferred on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, the funding provides each top-flight side with a direct grant of GH¢100,000. The payout delivers on an administration pledge by GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku to ease the financial strain on club owners and build long-term commercial sustainability across the league.

Beyond the direct cash disbursement, the GFA is rolling out a multi-tiered operational relief package for the new campaign. The association will cover all match officials' expenses including fees for referees and Match Commissioners removing a major recurring matchday cost from club budgets.

To further cut overhead and improve player welfare, the GFA is pairing financial relief with equipment and corporate logistics support:

  • Playing Gear: Each team will receive 30 pairs of football boots; 600 pairs league-wide to ensure squads are properly outfitted for training and matchdays.
  • Travel Logistics: Clubs will receive fuel allocations from state energy partner GOIL to offset the heavy cost of inter-regional league travel, alongside sponsor packages from retail giant Melcom.

By combining direct seed capital with officiating waivers and logistical backing, the GFA aims to give all 20 clubs a stable financial runway as the 2026/27 campaign kicks off.
