Bernard Kokonu Junior scored five minutes into the second half to give Dreams FC a 1–0 win at Basake Holy Stars on Sunday, ending their eight-match winless start to the 2026–27 Ghana Premier League season.
The 21-year-old, who joined Dreams from Division One side New Edubiase United in September, scored in the 50th minute at the AAK II Sports Arena in Basake to register his first top-flight goal for the club.
The victory brings relief for head coach Winfred Dormon, whose side entered the Matchweek 9 fixture bottom of the 18-team table with three points. Dormon, a member of the club's technical staff since 2013, took permanent charge in July 2025 after serving as assistant to Abdul Karim Zito.
Dreams had lost five and drawn three of their opening eight league games, including a 3–1 home defeat by Vision FC on 25 October. Their early-season run was also disrupted by disciplinary issues in September, when they had a player sent off in consecutive home matches against Bibiani Gold Stars and Medeama SC.
Kokonu Junior's goal and a composed defensive display secured only a second clean sheet of the campaign for the visitors, following their 0–0 draw with Accra Hearts of Oak on 3 October. The result also extends Dreams' unbeaten record against Basake Holy Stars to four wins and one draw across five Premier League meetings.
Despite the win, Dreams remain bottom of the table in 18th place on six points, one point behind 17th-placed Young Apostles FC, ahead of their Matchweek 10 home game against Debibi United on Sunday, 8 November. Basake Holy Stars sit in mid-table on 12 points after suffering consecutive 1–0 defeats and travel to face Port City FC next weekend.
