Musa Hamzata headed in a second-half equaliser to earn Asante Kotoko a 1–1 draw with Medeama SC at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday in a Ghana Premier League match marked by a first-half red card for Kotoko interim boss Diogo Peral.
Tensions flared on the touchline in the 16th minute when Peral, who stepped up from his role as assistant coach following Eric Tinkler's departure in September, reached down to gather a ball rolling out of play. Medeama defender Ebenezer Adade rushed over to retrieve it and stepped on Peral's hand while it rested on the ball.
After falling to the ground, Peral got to his feet and struck Adade around the shoulder and neck area, triggering a touchline brawl that forced players and match officials to intervene. The referee showed Peral a straight red card for violent conduct, while Adade escaped punishment for the initial contact—an incident expected to come under review by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Disciplinary Committee upon submission of the match commissioner's report and video evidence.
On the pitch, Medeama took the lead two minutes before half-time when Usman Safianu scored in the 43rd minute following a free-kick by Prince Owusu to put the visitors ahead at the break.
Kotoko responded 11 minutes after the restart through defender Hamzata, who rose to head home Joseph Amoah's corner in the 56th minute, capping a display that earned him the man-of-the-match award.
The draw leaves Medeama second in the table on 18 points—level with leaders FC Samartex on points and ahead on goal difference (+7 to +5)—ahead of their Matchweek 10 home fixture against Swedru All Blacks on Sunday, 8 November. Asante Kotoko sit ninth on 13 points and travel to face Berekum Chelsea on the same day.
