Asante Kotoko have fined assistant coach Diogo Peral following a touchline altercation with Medeama SC defender Ebenezer Adade during their Ghana Premier League encounter at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
The Portuguese coach was sent off after slapping Adade during Sunday's Matchday 9 fixture, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
The incident occurred when the ball went out of play and Adade moved to retrieve it for a quick throw-in. Peral appeared to attempt to delay the restart, prompting a confrontation between the two.
Adade reportedly pushed the coach during the exchange, before Peral retaliated by slapping the Medeama player. The incident attracted the attention of match officials, who showed the Kotoko assistant coach a red card.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has since charged Peral with a breach of Article 12(1)(h) of the GFA Disciplinary Code, 2019, over the alleged assault.
In a disciplinary notice issued on Monday, 2 November, the association confirmed that the coach had been given until Wednesday, 4 November, to respond to the charge.
Kotoko have also taken internal disciplinary action against their assistant coach, confirming in a statement on the club's official website that a fine had been imposed following discussions with him.
The club said Peral had acknowledged that he could have handled the situation better and conducted himself more professionally.
However, Kotoko did not disclose the amount of the fine or specify the nature of the financial penalty. The club has not clarified whether it involves a direct monetary payment, a deduction from his salary or another form of internal disciplinary measure.
"The Club wishes to state that such conduct does not reflect the standards and values we uphold at Asante Kotoko. Consequently, the Club has imposed a fine on Coach Diogo Peral as part of its internal disciplinary measures," the statement read.
The Porcupine Warriors stressed that emotions in football should never compromise the professionalism, discipline and respect expected of individuals representing the club.
They added that the decision was intended to reinforce their commitment to accountability and maintaining high standards both on and off the pitch.
Kotoko also urged their supporters and stakeholders to continue backing the team as they remain focused on their objectives for the 2026/27 campaign.
Meanwhile, the club's internal sanction does not bring the GFA's disciplinary proceedings to an end.
Peral is still required to respond to the association's charge by Wednesday, 4 November, with the outcome of the proceedings potentially determining whether he faces additional punishment.
The incident has overshadowed a closely contested encounter between the two sides, with both teams settling for a point after the 1-1 draw.
