Thomas-Asante Grabs Assist, Yirenkyi Stars as Coventry City Thrash Newcastle 4-1 to Make It Back-to-Back Wins

Ghana internationals Brandon Thomas-Asante and Caleb Yirenkyi both featured as Coventry City beat Newcastle United 4-1 to record successive Premier League victories.

Thomas-Asante played 90 minutes and set up Coventry's third goal, crossing for Ellis Simms to score in the 81st minute at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

It was his first assist of the season and his second full appearance, both of which have ended in wins for Frank Lampard's side.

Yirenkyi started in central midfield and played 78 minutes before being replaced by Frank Onyeka. The 21-year-old helped Coventry control the middle of the pitch as the hosts earned their first home Premier League win in 25 years.

Jack Rudoni had given Coventry the lead from the penalty spot in the sixth minute, with Sidiki Cherif adding a second after the break.

Sven Botman pulled one back for Newcastle before Simms and substitute Stephen Mfuni completed the scoring.

The victory follows Coventry's 1-0 win at Nottingham Forest last month, where Thomas-Asante also played the full match.

Promoted as Championship champions last season, Coventry have now taken six points from their opening six fixtures after losing their first four.

Newcastle, under Matthias Jaissle, have seven points from six games.
