Ghana Premier League: Ansah double helps Port City bounce back against Bechem United

Owusu Ansah scored twice as Port City FC bounced back from defeat with a 3-1 victory over Bechem United in the Ghana Premier League at the Nana Boamah Darko II Park in Kukurantumi.

The forward struck in each half to help the newly promoted side move third in the table.

The result sees Port City recover from their 1-0 loss to Medeama on 30 September and leaves them as the only newly promoted side currently in the top five.

Port City started brightly and took the lead in the 18th minute when Hamza Zakari opened the scoring.

The hosts doubled their advantage in the 34th minute through Ansah to take a 2-0 lead into half-time.

Bechem United reduced the deficit eight minutes after the restart when Francis Acquah made it 2-1 in the 53rd minute to threaten a comeback.

Their momentum was short-lived, however, as Ansah restored Port City's two-goal cushion just three minutes later with his second of the game in the 56th minute.

The visitors had arrived with confidence after a brief two-match unbeaten run that included a 1-0 win over Dreams FC and a goalless draw with Hearts of Oak, but struggled to contain a clinical home attack.

Port City expertly managed the closing stages of a physical encounter - which saw a yellow card in the 70th minute - to secure a third win in five league games this season.

The hosts have now beaten Gold Stars, Berekum Chelsea and Bechem United in their opening five fixtures and sit on 10 points after Matchday 5.

Defeat leaves Bechem United in mid-table after a second loss of the campaign.
