Lucrative South African Offer Behind Kotoko Exit, Tinkler Reveals in Emotional Farewell

Former Asante Kotoko head coach Eric Tinkler has revealed that a lucrative offer from South Africa influenced his decision to leave the club.

Tinkler met with the Kotoko squad and technical team on Monday to formally bid them farewell after confirming his resignation.

Addressing the players, the South African coach explained that his decision had been taken the previous week, with the club's Chairman and Director of Football, Stanley Purl Menzo, already aware of the situation.

According to Tinkler, Kotoko had asked him to remain in charge until their Ghana Premier League fixture against Aduana FC, which he honoured.

He therefore stressed that his resignation was not influenced by the team's performance or Sunday's 2-0 defeat to Aduana.

Tinkler revealed that he had received a good offer from a club in South Africa, which became the main reason behind his decision to leave Kotoko.

"This is the world of football. I was given a good offer to go back to a club in South Africa, and that is the main reason why I made the decision," he told the players.

Reports in South Africa have since linked Tinkler with a return to Durban City, although the move has not been officially confirmed.

Despite his departure, Tinkler expressed confidence in Kotoko's ability to achieve their objectives this season. He believes the squad has enough quality and backed the technical team, including Diogo and Humphrey, to continue the work and push towards the club's targets.

"You Never Know, I Might Be Back"

Tinkler also thanked the players for their hard work, dedication, respect and discipline during his time at the club.

He ended his farewell message on an emotional note, leaving the door open for a possible return to the Porcupine Warriors.

"You never know, I might be back. I might be back, but the job is not finished."

Tinkler's departure comes just a day after Kotoko suffered a 2-0 home defeat to Aduana FC at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. The defeat was his first in four Ghana Premier League matches, having recorded one win and two draws in his previous three games.

Kotoko have confirmed that Tinkler's departure was at his request, citing personal reasons, after discussions between both parties failed to prevent his exit.
