The New York Knicks have signed 25-year-old forward Dalton Knecht to a two-way contract, according to his agents at Excel Sports Management.
Knecht was drafted 17th overall by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2024 NBA Draft. He had a solid rookie year, scoring 9.1 points per game. However, he saw less playing time in his second season, averaging just 4.2 points. The Lakers needed to make space on their roster, so they waived him on October 19.
As soon as he became available, several teams tried to sign him. The Minnesota Timberwolves, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Sacramento Kings all showed interest. But the Knicks, who are the defending NBA champions, moved fast to secure him. To make room on the roster for Knecht, New York plans to waive Kevin McCullar Jr.
The Knicks targeted Knecht primarily for his shooting ability. He boasts a 37% success rate from three-point range, providing the team with valuable outside scoring to help spread the floor.
Under his new two-way deal, Knecht will split his time between the Knicks and their G League affiliate. He is eligible to play in up to 50 regular-season NBA games this year, giving New York a promising young shooter while offering Knecht a fresh start on a championship squad.
