Ministry of Sports and Recreation orders Black Stars technical team dissolution and overhauls GFA structure

Ghana's Ministry of Sports and Recreation has ordered the dissolution of the Black Stars' technical team and all national team management committees, as part of seven directives issued to the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

The directives, reported by Sporty FM on 2 October 2026, follow a crunch meeting between the Ministry and the GFA after Ghana's collapse against The Gambia in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying.

The Black Stars surrendered a two-goal lead to lose at home on Tuesday, extending their winless run in Afcon qualifying to eight matches.

According to the graphic published by the Accra-based station, the Ministry has ordered the establishment of a new National Technical Management Committee comprising two government-appointed experts and two GFA nominees.

Under the new structure, the GFA will not be permitted to unilaterally appoint the next Black Stars head coach without consulting the committee.

The Ministry has also directed that the existing management committees for the various national teams be replaced by one committee for men's football and one for women's football.

Other directives include the restoration of state-provided accommodation for the head coach, and a consolidation of the national youth team structure.

As part of the youth reforms, government is to participate in selecting development coaches for the Under-15, Under-17 and Under-20 sides, with a clearer pathway between the age groups.

The final directive calls for both parties to conclude and sign a Fifa-standard cooperation agreement to enforce joint decision-making between the GFA and the Sports Ministry.

The GFA is yet to publicly comment on the directives.
