AFCON 2027 Qualifiers: "We Are Here to Deliver, Not to Develop": Queiroz Issues Challenge to Young Stars Ahead of Ivory Coast Clash

Ahead of Ghana's crucial 2027 AFCON qualifier against Côte d'Ivoire, Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has set clear expectations for his squad: this is no time for experiments.

Despite missing a string of high-profile players to late withdrawals, Queiroz was adamant during Wednesday's pre-match press conference at the Stade de la Paix that the fixture is not merely a testing ground for untested talent.

"Let's be clear about one thing," Queiroz stated. "We don't come here for education or development. We come here to deliver."

Ghana's absentee list has grown significantly in the last 48 hours. Captain Jordan Ayew was ruled out with a groin injury, while in-form forward Antoine Semenyo withdrew after suffering a swollen ankle on club duty. Mohammed Kudus opted to remain in London to continue his recovery rather than risk an early return.

The defensive line also took a hit, with Abdul Rahman Baba failing a medical assessment upon arrival at camp, while Prince Kwabena Adu remains sidelined following a head injury sustained in league action.

The absences have sparked concern among supporters, but the Portuguese coach framed the setbacks as a natural evolution of the squad. He noted that every seasoned professional was once an eager youngster waiting for a breakthrough.

"Tomorrow, we have a solid team with some experienced players on the pitch, and we have a couple of great potential, great talent players full of enthusiasm looking for an opportunity to shine," Queiroz added.

Queiroz expects a tactically thrilling encounter against the Elephants, highlighting the striking similarities between the two sides. He praised the Ivorians' flair, power and attacking creativity — qualities he says he sees in his own Ghanaian team.

Predicting a fierce "local derby" atmosphere in Bouaké, Queiroz is banking on his blend of experienced anchors and eager youth to outplay the hosts.

For the emerging players stepping into the spotlight left vacant by Ayew, Kudus and Semenyo, the manager's message is crystal clear: the time for learning is over; the time to compete is now.
