Manchester City winger Antoine Semenyo has been ruled out for eight weeks with a collateral ligament injury, head coach Enzo Maresca has confirmed.
The Ghana international sustained the injury during City's fixture against Ipswich Town, with initial fears of a more serious setback eased after a scan.
Speaking after the Ipswich Town game, Maresca provided an update on his squad.
"The only one that will be out for probably eight weeks is Antoine," Maresca said.
"In the first moment we expected a worse injury. After yesterday's scan we feel much better because it's not so big like we expected.
"It will be eight weeks. Now the most important thing is recovery. When he is back in December it will be like a new player. Collateral. It's not muscle."
There was more encouraging news regarding Erling Haaland, who Maresca confirmed was close to a return.
"He can be available. We'll see. We have a session now and we have some doubts. He was quite good yesterday. Better. The rest are more or less okay," he added.
Semenyo's absence represents a major blow for Ghana.
The 25-year-old will miss the Black Stars' double-header against Somalia in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in November.
It adds to a difficult international spell, with Semenyo also missing September's AFCON qualifiers against Côte d'Ivoire and Gambia — both defeats under then-coach Carlos Queiroz.
Ghana will now have to navigate their crucial qualification fixtures without one of their most influential attacking options.
