Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz has left out several players who featured at the 2026 World Cup in his squad for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Côte d'Ivoire and The Gambia.
Veteran midfielder Thomas Partey, Coventry City forward Brandon Thomas-Asante and Wolfsburg defender Jonas Adjetey are among the notable absentees from the 24-man list.
Partey left out to focus on recovery
Partey, 33, who now plays for Al Shabab in the Saudi Pro League, misses out after struggling with fitness.
The midfielder picked up a hamstring injury last month in Al Shabab's league game against Al Riyadh and has been sidelined since, although he has recently returned to intensive training.
Queiroz has decided not to rush him back for the qualifiers, allowing him to continue his rehabilitation at club level.
Thomas-Asante and Adjetey omitted
Thomas-Asante's omission marks a change in attack. The Coventry City forward wore the number 10 shirt at the 2026 World Cup and came off the bench in Ghana's group games against Panama and England.
He has been left out as Queiroz turns to returning forward Mohammed Kudus and experienced striker Jordan Ayew.
In defence, Adjetey's absence is surprising given his progress over the last year. The 22-year-old centre-back joined Wolfsburg from Basel earlier this year and started Ghana's World Cup opener against Panama.
The Portuguese coach has instead opted for new faces including SV Elversberg's Jan Gyamerah.
Ghana face Côte d'Ivoire on 24 September and The Gambia on 29 September before a friendly against Morocco on 4 October as they begin their bid to return to the Africa Cup of Nations after missing the 2025 edition.
