Ghana Premier League Matchday 1 Results: Hearts Thrash Chelsea 4-0, Kotoko Held, Vision Teenagers Shine

The 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season kicked off with goals, drama and history. Nineteen goals were scored across eight matches on Matchday 1 - with one game still to play - surpassing the 11 goals recorded on the opening weekend of last season. Five home wins and three draws were recorded, while FC AshantiGold '04 received the first red card of the campaign.

The game between Dreams FC and Medeama SC was postponed due to Medeama's involvement in the CAF Champions League preliminary round.

Teenagers fire Vision to statement win

Vision FC opened the season on Friday at the Nii Adjei Kraku II Sports Complex in Tema with a commanding 3-0 victory over Young Apostles, inspired by two 16-year-olds.

Naziru Alhassan Nyenye, 16, broke the deadlock after just four minutes with a composed finish. Setsofia Aqetey, also 16, doubled the lead in the 40th minute with a deflected free kick before completing his brace in the 68th minute with a clinical finish. Both were withdrawn in the 76th minute to a standing ovation.

Hearts end five-year opening day curse

At the University of Ghana Sports Stadium in Legon, Hearts of Oak ended five seasons of frustration on Matchday 1 with a dominant 4-0 victory over Berekum Chelsea.

The Phobians had failed to win on opening day since the 2021/22 season, a run that included draws and defeats to Legon Cities, Aduana Stars, Real Tamale United, Basake Holy Stars and Hohoe United.

John Antwi, on his second debut for the club after rejoining from Dreams FC, led the way with a brace in the 4th and 37th minutes. Kader Mamadu made it 3-0 in the 88th minute before Ali Mohammed sealed the win from the penalty spot in the 90th+2 minute.

Per the stats, Hearts registered 11 shots, six on target, with 53% possession to Chelsea's six shots and one on target.

At the Berekum Golden City Park, newly promoted Debibi United marked their Premier League debut with a resilient 2-2 draw against Asante Kotoko.

Kotoko led twice through Yakubu Dogo and Hubert Gyau, but Richard Owusu - the third brace scorer of the weekend - struck twice to earn Debibi a point.

Basake Holy Stars opened with a 1-0 win over Swedru All Blacks.

Bechem United beat Bibiani Gold Stars 1-0 at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park.

Heart of Lions and Aduana Stars played out a goalless 0-0 draw at the Kpando Sports Stadium.

Newly promoted Port City FC and FC AshantiGold '04 shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw, with Ashgold picking up the first red card of the season.

Reigning champions Samartex closed the weekend with a 3-1 home win over Karela United at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena to complete the five home wins.
