BEREKUM, Ghana - Asante Kotoko head coach Eric Tinkler was not impressed with his side's performance after their 2-2 draw against newly promoted Debibi United in the Ghana Premier League opener at the Berekum Golden City Park.
The South African coach said his team did not do enough to win and expressed dissatisfaction with how his players applied themselves.
Tinkler said the Porcupine Warriors lacked composure, failed to create chances and gave the ball away too easily.
"On the ball today we were very poor, very poor, not good enough," Tinkler said in his post-match press conference.
When asked if his players followed his instructions, he replied: "No I don't. Like I say we want to be a possession based team. We need to show a lot more composure on the ball."
He also noted the size of the pitch should have helped them execute the game plan.
"The pitch was long and wide enough so my boys should have played to my instruction," he said.
Despite his criticism, Tinkler admitted a draw was a fair result on the balance of play.
Tinkler also expressed disappointment at not beating a newly promoted side.
"Very sore like I said because I believe we could have won this game if we had applied ourselves in the right manner," he said.
He, however, said the result does not put pressure on his team, noting it would have been pressure if they had lost and returned without any points.
On the pitch, Kotoko led twice through Yakubu Dogo's 15th-minute opener assisted by Hubert Gyau and Gyau's 79th-minute equalizer, but Richard Owusu's brace - a 49th-minute free-kick and a 73rd-minute strike - earned Debibi a point on their Premier League debut.
