Dreams FC stunned in Premier League opener after long wait

Dreams FC suffered a 3-1 defeat to Berekum Chelsea in their first match of the 2026-27 Ghana Premier League season.

The Still Believe lads - winners of the 2022-23 FA Cup and semi-finalists in the 2023-24 CAF Confederation Cup - were playing their first league game of the campaign after their matchday one fixture against Medeama was postponed due to Medeama's involvement in the CAF Champions League preliminary round.

Dreams fell behind early at the Golden City Park as Seidu Abubakar put the hosts ahead after just three minutes.

Jonah Attuquaye doubled Berekum Chelsea's lead in the 21st minute to leave Dreams with work to do at the break.

Abdul Razak Salifu gave the visitors hope when he pulled a goal back in the 72nd minute, but Marvin Owusu sealed victory for Berekum Chelsea with a third goal in the 90th minute.

The result was a turnaround for Berekum Chelsea, who had been thrashed 4-0 by Hearts of Oak on matchday one.

For Dreams, attention now turns to their next fixture where they host Bibiani GoldStars on 19 September 2026, as they look to secure their first points of the season.
