Berekum Golden City Park, Berekum- Newly promoted Debibi United produced a spirited performance to hold Asante Kotoko to a 2-2 draw in their opening 2026–27 Ghana Premier League fixture.
The visitors made a bright start and took an early lead in the 15th minute when Yakubu Dogo clinically finished a through ball from Hubert Gyau. Kotoko maintained their 1-0 advantage into half-time, but Debibi returned from the break with renewed purpose and leveled the score in the 49th minute via a Richard Owusu free-kick.
The pressure continued to mount on Kotoko goalkeeper Ibrahim Danlad until the 73rd minute, when Owusu struck again to complete his brace and give the home side a 2-1 lead.
However, that advantage was short-lived; Gyau reacted quickest to a goal-mouth scramble in the 79th minute to score and rescue a point for the Porcupine Warriors in head coach Eric Tinkler's competitive debut.
The clash of styles was clear in the numbers. While Kotoko controlled the overall tempo with 54% possession, Debibi were far more direct and efficient with their 46% share, generating more shots and corners. It was also a tough physical contest, with Kotoko picking up double the yellow cards of the home side.
