Accra Sports Stadium to host AFCON qualifiers for Ghana, Niger and Somalia
The Accra Sports Stadium will host 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers for Ghana, Niger and Somalia, the National Sports Authority (NSA) has confirmed.
Ghana currently has only one venue approved to stage FIFA Category A matches, according to NSA Director General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah.
He told 3Sports that Niger will play their home qualifier against Lesotho at the Accra Sports Stadium on 24 September - the same day Ghana face Ivory Coast away in Bouake.
"On the 24th of September, the Black Stars will be in Bouake. And at the same time, Niger will be here against Lesotho. So we're preparing for that," Ankrah said.
Ankrah added that Somalia will also use the stadium as their home venue for both legs of their qualifying tie against Ghana.
"Somalia, home and away... both matches will be played at Accra, home and away. So that's what the FA has communicated. So we need to prepare for those matches," he said.
The Black Stars are scheduled to return to Accra to host The Gambia on 29 September.
Ankrah said the concentration of fixtures in the capital is due to the stadium's status.
"Accra Sports Stadium is currently the only approved venue for FIFA Category A matches," he said.
The NSA says the stadium is undergoing maintenance work to ensure it meets Confederation of African Football standards ahead of the September international window.
