Spurs Edge Chelsea, Inter Beat Man City on Penalties as Man Utd Lift Snapdragon Cup

Tottenham Hotspur maintained their unbeaten pre-season record with a dramatic victory over Chelsea, while Manchester City were beaten on penalties by Inter Milan in Hong Kong and Manchester United came from behind to defeat Atlético Madrid in Stockholm on a busy day of summer football.

Tottenham continued their impressive preparations for the new season with a 2-1 win over Chelsea, despite playing more than 40 minutes with 10 men.

Roberto De Zerbi's side took the lead in the 16th minute when summer signing Sandro Tonali marked his first Spurs appearance on the scoresheet, finishing calmly after a well-worked move.

Chelsea responded quickly through Estêvão, whose powerful header restored parity just four minutes later.

The contest shifted after the restart when Kevin Danso received a straight red card in the 49th minute, leaving Tottenham to defend for much of the second half.

Chelsea controlled possession but struggled to create clear-cut opportunities against a disciplined Spurs defence.

The decisive moment arrived in stoppage time. Jamie Donley struck the post before Richarlison reacted quickest to convert the rebound in the 92nd minute, sealing Tottenham's fourth consecutive pre-season victory.

Inter won 3-1 on penalties

Manchester City were denied victory after Inter Milan recovered from an early deficit before prevailing in a penalty shootout in Hong Kong.

Pep Guardiola's side made a bright start and went ahead in the 14th minute when Antoine Semenyo delivered a low cross for Divin Mubama to finish from close range.

Inter equalised six minutes later as Benjamin Pavard reacted first inside the penalty area after City failed to clear their lines.

City introduced Savinho, Rico Lewis and Vitor Reis after the break in search of a winner, with Reis coming closest when his effort struck the crossbar.

Neither side could find a decisive second goal, sending the match to penalties, where Inter goalkeeper Ivan Provedel produced two saves to help the Serie A champions secure a 3-1 shootout victory.

Manchester United recovered from an early setback to beat Atlético Madrid 2-1 and lift the Snapdragon Cup in Stockholm.

Atlético made the stronger start and went ahead after five minutes when Arnau Ortiz caught Tom Heaton out at his near post.

United gradually took control of the contest, dominating possession and creating several opportunities before finally drawing level shortly after the interval.

Bryan Mbeumo converted from the penalty spot in the 52nd minute after Shea Lacey was fouled inside the area.

The summer signing then completed the turnaround in the 74th minute, finishing confidently after Jack Fletcher won possession high up the pitch.

The victory continues United's encouraging pre-season campaign as Michael Carrick's side build towards the start of the 2026-27 season.
