A New Chapter in Catalonia: Abdul Mumin Joins Girona

Abdul Mumin signs for Girona FC on free transfer 2026

Ghanaian defender Abdul Mumin has joined Girona FC on a free transfer.

The 28-year-old centre-back has signed a three-year deal that runs until the summer of 2029. He arrives from Rayo Vallecano and is expected to add experience and stability to Girona’s backline ahead of the 2026/27 Segunda División season.

After leaving Rayo Vallecano, Mumin was in high demand as a free agent. Girona moved fast to strengthen a defense that saw major changes this summer. At 1.88m, Mumin brings physicality, aerial strength, and strong one-on-one defending — qualities Girona will need at the heart of defense.

Mumin started at Right to Dream Academy in Accra before moving to Europe. He developed at FC Nordsjælland in Denmark and Vitória de Guimarães in Portugal. In 2022 he joined Rayo Vallecano, making 60 plus appearances in La Liga.

He suffered a serious ACL injury vs Sevilla in March 2025, but has recovered fully. His years in Spain mean he can slot straight into the Girona squad without an adaptation period.

Mumin is a Ghana international. He debuted in June 2024 in a 2-1 World Cup qualifier win over Mali, and was part of Ghana’s squad for the 2026 World Cup .

For Girona, landing a 28-year-old international on a free is smart business. For Mumin, Catalonia is a fresh start and a chance to become a key leader in the club’s project.
