The atmosphere in Philadelphia Stadium will be tense at 9:00 PM GMT today . This is more than just another group game. It is a must-win match for both countries.
Ghana’s Black Stars come in strong after holding England to a 0-0 draw. On the other side, Croatia’s Vatreni have confidence after beating Panama, but they know only a win will keep them alive in the World Cup.
Coach Carlos Queiroz has made Ghana very hard to break down. Against England, his deep defensive setup worked perfectly, and he plans to use the same plan against Croatia’s coach Zlatko Dalic. The game will likely be decided in midfield. Luka Modric and Mateo Kovacic will have to find a way through Ghana’s solid defense. They will control the ball and look for openings, while Josko Gvardiol will push up on the left to attack the wings. Up front, Ante Budimir will be ready to score if Ghana makes even a small mistake.
But Ghana will not just defend. They will wait to hit Croatia on the break. Antoine Semenyo and Inaki Williams will defend hard first, then attack fast when Ghana wins the ball. Caleb Yirenkyi will drive forward through the middle and target Croatia’s defenders Martin Pongračić and Josip Šutalo when they are out of position. Jordan Ayew will lead the early pressure to stop Croatia from settling, and goalkeeper Benjamin Asare will lead the defense like he did against England.

What happens in this game matters a lot for what comes next. Finishing top of Group L means a much easier Round of 32 game against a third-place team from Groups E, H, I, J, or K. Ghana can top the group with a win if England loses to Panama or has a worse goal difference. A draw will also send Ghana through. But if they finish second, they will face a tough Portugal team that is currently second in Group K.
For Croatia, there is no room for mistakes. Only a win guarantees they stay in the tournament. If they finish third and depend on other results, they will likely face an unbeaten Colombia team that has been strong in Group K. Every run, tackle, and tactical change in Philadelphia will be about staying alive. This game could define both teams’ World Cup.
